The Senator Ademola Adeleke’s camp and the angry second runner up in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), primary election Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi blamed each other for unsuccessful reconciliation between the two camps.

The PDP house has not been settled since the primary which made Senator Ademola the candidate of the party.

Senator Ademola in a statement signed by Director of Media and Publicity
Senator Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organization, Olawale Rasheed, pointed at Dr Ogunbiyi’s supporters for carrying rumour that the elder brother to the PDP’s candidate, Dr Deji Adeleke has vowed not to see Dr Ogunbiyi for reconciliation, which he described has a lie from the pits of hell.

He said: “The Adelekes had on several occasions made attempts to get appointment to meet Dr Akin Ogunbiyi who outrightly told Mr Dele Adeleke at the last PDP statewide meeting of Ward Chairmen that he was not ready to meet the camp but that Dr Adeleke should instead go and meet with the people behind him.

“Since then, the Adelekes led by Dr Deji Adeleke have held meetings with critical party stakeholders and leaders who agreed to meeting the camp; including Dr Olu Alabi, Baba Shuaib Oyedokun, Senator Ogunwale, Chief Odekunmi, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and Chief Dr Olu Daisi Aina.”

He explained further, “Just last Wednesday the 29th of August, Senator Ademola Adeleke suspended all campaign activities to fly to Abuja to meet Dr Akin Ogunbiyi. This is in addition to painstaking efforts of the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who, after series of reconciliatory moves, had mandated Dr. Ogunbiyi and his loyalists to join the campaign train of PDP’s candidate, Sen. Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, they have remained adamant on destroying the good works of the Party, with different failed attempts to jeopardize the campaign process.”

Adeleke alleged Dr. Ogunbiyi for playing anti-party, saying he has been holding nocturnal meetings with non PDP political platforms including setting up a negotiation Team made up of Engineer Dare Ojo, Mr Akin Adeyi, and other officials mandated to negotiate terms with Aregbesola in Lagos or Abuja.

He disclosed that at no time and account did Dr Ogunbiyi nor his camp agree to a meeting with Dr. Deji Adeleke.

While reacting to the statement of Senator Adeleke, Press Secretary of Dr Ogunbiyi, Comrade Ismail Afolabi, said Senator Ademola statement doesn’t come as a surprise, as they have resorted to all forms of lies and blackmail to cover up the dismal reactions on their poorly coordinated outings.

Reacting to what he described as a dishonourable and fallacious statement from Adeleke’s campaign office, Ogunbiyi in the statement issued on Tuesday insisted that he actually won the July 21st primary election of the party but Senator Ademola dubiously clinched the gubernatorial ticket through manipulation.

Dr Ogunbiyi reminded Senator Adeleke that he is not his opponent at the coming September 22 election, advised the camp to focus on winning the election not to centralize on bringing him to his knee.

He recalled that after the primaries, the national leadership of the party, led by Prince Uche Secondous, the respected PDP national chairman and his executives had brokered peace between Ademola and Ogunbiyi wherein they ceded the deputy governorship position to Ogunbiyi’s camp, among other things. But today, everyone knows that it is the Adelekes, not Ogunbiyi that floated the pact.

Dr Ogunbiyi dismissed the claim that Senator Ademola made several attempts to get appointment to meet Dr Akin Ogunbiyi is totally false, said at no time he did ever advised Dr Deji Adeleke to go and meet his people.

“It is on record that some leaders of the party including Baba Shuaib Oyedokun, Hon. Segun Odekunmi, Baba Oyelayo Laoye, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa and host of others converged at Ogunbiyi’s residence at Ile Ogbo in anticipation of a proposed visit of Dr. Deji Adeleke-led Ademola’s team in order to facilitate a reconciliatory meeting on Sunday. The leaders went away in disappointment.” he added.

“Factually, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi has played host to various interest groups in the state towards the enthronement of good governance come September 22. But, it is rather myopic and tactless for Adeleke campaign organization to accuse him of meeting with non PDP groups. That the Senator’s campaign team also accused people in Ogunbiyi’s camp of negotiating with another party, is really laughable.”

“As a selfless and futuristic team, it is worth noting that neither Ogunbiyi nor his camp prays for failure of the party at the September 22 governorship election. Consequently, the Senator’s campaign office, since it appears to be totally bereft of innovative ideas, is further advised to device strategic plans to deal with the anxiety that has gripped the camp over the party members’ lukewarm attitude towards the campaign.

“We also advise the Adeleke’s campaign team to focus on issues that will promote unity and victory of the party at the polls. They should drop their arrogance and stop chasing shadows.”
